Biologia zapylania baldaszkowatych (Apiaceae) – stare mity i nowe perspektywy [Pollination biology of Apiaceae – old myths and new perspectives]

Since the beginning of the systematic surveys of plants pollination systems the family Apiaceae was regarded promiscuous in terms of pollination biology. However for the last several decades new research based on more detailed study of pollinators’ importance and flower biology revealed that umbellifers are much more specialised than previously suggested and their pollination systems may contain various sophisticated mechanisms overlooked by earlier workers. The present paper outlines the available data on pollination biology of Apiaceae and indicates directions for further research.

Historia badań botanicznych w powiecie olkuskim. Część I: lata 1850-1939 [History of the botanical research within the Olkusz district. Part 1: 1850-1939]

The paper concerns the area of the Olkusz administrational district within its contemporary borders, i.e. the communes: Olkusz, Bolesław, Bukowno, Klucze, Wolbrom and Trzyciąż, together with Sławków commune. It describes the beginnings of floristic explorations of this land with special attention to the chronology and authorships of the most significant floristic discoveries. The first part of this study comprises years since 1850, the earliest known naturalists’ expedition, until 1939. It is focused mostly on the history of research into the flora of local zinc mine spoils (especially Armeria maritima subsp. halieri, Biscutella laevigata, Leontodon taraxacoides, Alyssum alyssoides and other). It also covers the earliest records of Polish endemic species Cochlearia polonica, finally distinguished in 1937, as well as the origin of the idea of nature and landscape protection in Pustynia Błędowska “desert” area.
