Czas i przestrzeń w mutualizmie [The time and space in mutualizm]

Here we present a critical point of view on regarding mutualism as a static interaction in which only final effects are considered. We support the hypothesis formulated by Bronstein [5] that mutualistic interactions are dynamic and costs or benefits of interacting organisms may change in time and space. Recent experimental studies as well as the results obtained by the authors suggest that the cost/benefit balance of interacting species varies. This fact results from the variation between habitats in the selective pressure and from the occurrence of reciprocal selection only in some communities (hotspots).

Rozmnażanie geofitów leśnych w warunkach naturalnych i laboratoryjnych [The reproduction of the forest geophytes in natural and laboratory conditions]

This paper presents the review of literature over generative and vegetative reproduction of Ficaria verna ssp. bulbifera and Dentaria bulbifera. In the forest these species are potentially reproducing in three ways: 1) by special organs named axillary bulbils; 2) by fragmentation and separation of underground store organs; 3) by seeds.

Bór w procesach fizjologicznych roślin [Boron in physiological processes of plants]

Boron (B) is an essential element for higher plant growth, although its primary function is not completely known. This element is also required for the normal growth of yeast, diatoms, heterocystous cyanobacteria, fishes and for humans. Interesting is the fact, that some taxonomic groups of vascular plants have an absolute requirement for boron while others do not. Moreover, in most plant species the boron requirement for reproduction is much higher than for vegetative growth. Boron have limited mobility and is supplied to growing tissues primarily through the xylem, but isolation of the B-sorbitol complexes from the phloem sap of sugar-alcohol-producing species, conclusively proves that sorbitol facilitates its mobility in higher plants. In recent years, research has progressed to demonstrate boron involvement in three main aspects of plant physiology: structural role for boron in cell walls, a role for boron in membrane function, and boron involvement in metabolic activities. It was proposed that boron can be involved in a number of metabolic pathways such as auxin, phenol, ascorbic, carbohydrate and nitrate metabolism. This review presents a general boron status in plant, boron uptake and mobility, its role under growth and reproduction, structural role for boron in cell walls, a role for boron in membrane function, and boron involvement in metabolic activities.
