Początki uprawy roślin: gdzie, kiedy, jak i dlaczego [The beginnings of plant cultivation: where, when, how and why]

The article presents the review of the oldest appearances of domesticated plants in the Near East, East Asia, Mesoamerica and South America. Examples of genetic studies on modem populations of wild progenitors of cultivated species are described in order to show their contribution to better understanding of the origin of domesticated taxa. Some hypotheses explaining causes of the rise of agriculture are discussed.

Wpływ przemysłowych zanieczyszczeń powietrza generujących stres glinowy na grzyby leśne [The effects of air pollutants generating aluminium stress on forest fungi]

Acid depositions affect microbiota of forest soil by causing shifts in species composition and activities of microbial population important to plant growth. In polluted areas some species of ectomycorrhizal and saprotrophic fungi show a tendency to disappear while activity of pathogenic fungi increases. Aluminium limits growth of fungal mycelia in pure cultures, however, its role in forest condition is unclear. The most tolerant fungi display mechanisms of Al detoxification. Potential mechanisms of the detoxification involve regulation of aluminium availability due to precipitation and complexation by low molecular weight organic compounds. Phosphorus precipitation of aluminium as insoluble aluminium polyphosphates (AI-PolyP complexes) decreases levels of both toxic ions of Al and available forms of P in mycelium. In laboratory. the most tolerant fungi can grow on substrates containing high amounts of aluminium due to the presence of agar and other compounds of the tested media that alleviate toxicity of aluminium. In forest conditions the same fungi may be far more sensitive to the aluminium stress. In this paper authors consider whether the tolerant ectomycorrhizal fungi may protect roots of conifer trees against aluminium toxicity and carry on a controversy about a potential influence of pollution on incidence of root and butt rots caused by Heterobasidion annosum and Armillaria sp.
