Theory of Kulczyński on hydrological classification of peatlands in the light of contemporary investigations

Henryk Okruszko, Jan Oświt

Abstract

Basic assumptions of the peat science theory of Kulczyński presented by him in every detail in his work "Peat bogs of Polesie" at particular consideration of the effect of hydrological phenomena on the development and differentiation of peatlands are discussed. While developing the Kulczyński's theory, own concept of hydrological classification of wetlands is presented, which distinguishes four types of wetlands on the basis of hydrological alimentation of site and nine kinds of wetlands on the basis of hydroecological conditions in the site.
