In this post, important issues related to modernization of the Polish Botanical Society publishing practices are being emphasized, which aims to further improve the standard of the editorial process, having regard also to Plan S. This process will take place in several stages, and subsequent updates will be presented in this post (beginning from the latest updates).
2021-02-12 update
Starting from 2021, the journals Acta Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae (beginning with Vol. 90), Acta Agrobotanica (beginning with Vol. 74), and Acta Mycologica (beginning with Vol. 56) transform into annuals – there won’t be issues within a volume, but the volume numbering remains intact and will be continued. The articles will be published continuously, which means that an article will be published in its final and complete version of record as soon as all editorial works have been finalized. Wiadomości Botaniczne journal has already been publishing in this mode (beginning with Vol. 61).
2021-01-12 update
Some changes could not be finalized in 2020 (e.g., introduction of a new editorial management system or updating of the publication policy) and these works will be continued in 2021.
2020-11-24 update
At the Managing Board meeting on November 21, 2020, a resolution was adopted increasing article processing charge for Acta Agrobotanica and Acta Mycologica. The new fees concern manuscripts submitted on and after 2021-01-01, and are as follows: for domestic authors: 1,400 PLN (1,000 PLN for PBS members), for foreign authors: 400 EUR (360 EUR for PBS members).
2020-05-27 update
A deposit policy has been updated so that authors can now post early versions of a manuscript, i.e., preprint and postprint, online (in digital repositories and personal websites), with the exception that the preprint shouldn’t be available during the review process in any of the Society’s publication to comply with double-blind review requirements.

2020-04-21 update
The new issues of Acta Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae and Acta Agrobotanica have been published on the PBS editorial platform. They are already available in the XML JATS format (see below).
2019-12-27 update
Updated instructions for authors have been just published on the PBS editorial platform. They are valid until the change of the editorial management system, but the key requirements such as in-text citations and reference list format will remain afterwards. We ask authors to prepare the manuscripts according to the new guidelines.
2019-12-02 update
- Starting from 2020, the scientific publications of the Society will be available in XML JATS, for better discoverability of the scientific output.
- Starting from 2020, authors guidelines will be updated to introduce APA (seventh edition) as a style to format in-text citations and references.
- Starting from 2020, new publications will be placed in the Polish Botanical Society Repository. All publications currently available outside of the Repository will be gradually transferred there.
- The new editorial managing system is planned to be developed till the end of 2020.
- Starting from 2020, Monographiae Botanicae book series will be a default place for scientific monographs, where manuscripts in Polish will be also accepted. The series will be published electronic format only, with print-on-demand option available (at the author’s additional expense). Submitting of the monographs outside of the series will be also available, which will be covered in upcoming publication policy update.
- Starting from 2020, Wiadomości Botaniczne will be also accepting manuscripts in English.
- Publication policy update will be compiled till the end of 2020.
- Starting from 2020, article processing charges will change:
- For publication in Acta Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae:
- for domestic authors: 2,000 PLN (1,400 PLN for PBS members)
- for foreign authors: 520 EUR (480 EUR for PBS members).
- For publication in Acta Agrobotanica and Acta Mycologica:
- for domestic authors: 700 PLN (500 PLN for PBS members)
- for foreign authors: 200 EUR (180 EUR for PBS members).
- Publication in Wiadomości Botaniczne will be free of charge.
