Acta Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae – Call for Papers – Volume 91

Proliferous and Innovative

Next year, the community of Polish botanists will celebrate the centennial of their organized activity marked by the foundation of the Polish Botanical Society in 1922, shortly after the country regained freedom after WWI. A year later, in 1923, the first issue of the Society’s journal Acta Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae was released. This scientific publication quickly became a venue for communicating the most outstanding discoveries in the field of plant biology to the world. Among our most prominent authors were Władysław Szafer, Bogumił Pawłowski, Wacław Gajewski, Zygmunt Hejnowicz, Maria Olszewska, Tomasz Wodzicki, to name the few.

On the special occasion of the PBS centennial, we would like to invite the substantial and significant contributions to the journal from all disciplines of plant biology. They may either review the achievements of various Polish botanical schools in the historical context, or present the facts new to science in the form of original research papers. We will be publishing them continuously in the upcoming year 2022, in Volume 91 of ASBP. All the articles will be branded with a unique logo of PBS anniversary to make the volume of the journal very special. Submissions will undergo the standard peer-review process.

Please take this invitation to heart because the next opportunity comes in 2122!

Let us celebrate! We are looking forward to your positive response, which will surely materialize in excellent submissions. The submission deadline – February 28, 2022.

Acta Agrobotanica – call for papers: “Morpho-anatomy of usable plants – function and adaptation”

To exchange the knowledge in current discussion about plant function in relation to their organs anatomy, we plan to publish an issue in December 2021 entitled “Morpho-anatomy of usable plants – function and adaptation”.

Our mission is to present for broader audience the variability of structure of useful plants in relation to coadaptations on evolutionary, molecular, biochemical, and physiological levels.

The manuscript due date is March 31, 2021. Original research papers, reviews, as well as short communications are eagerly invited.

Journal policies (including guidelines for manuscript preparation, fees) are available at: https://pbsociety.org.pl/journals/index.php/aa/about

Manuscripts submission starting point: https://pbsociety.org.pl/journals/index.php/aa/about/submissions#onlineSubmissions

Please submit a manuscript to a dedicated section “Morpho-anatomy of usable plants – function and adaptation”.

The Guest Editors of the issue are:

  • Anastasiya Odintsova, University of Lviv, Ukraine
  • Barbara Łotocka, Warsaw University of Life Sciences – SGGW, Poland

Posting early versions of a manuscript

As part of the modernization of the PBS publishing practices, we have updated a deposit policy so that authors can now post early versions of a manuscript, i.e., preprint and postprint, online (in digital repositories and personal websites), with the exception that the preprint shouldn’t be available during the review process in any of the Society’s publication to comply with double-blind review requirements.

Please read the copyright notice at PBS editorial platform.

Updated information on the author’s rights to share the work is also available on the SHERPA RoMEO website: https://v2.sherpa.ac.uk/id/publisher/1653

Acta Agrobotanica in Emerging Sources Citation Index by Clarivate Analytics

Acta Agrobotanica has been included in the Emerging Sources Citation Index, being part of the Web of Science Core Collection produced by Clarivate Analytics.

Indexing in the database further increases discoverability of the papers published in the journal and potentially their citations.

Modernization of the PBS publishing practices

In this post, important issues related to modernization of the Polish Botanical Society publishing practices are being emphasized, which aims to further improve the standard of the editorial process, having regard also to Plan S. This process will take place in several stages, and subsequent updates will be presented in this post (beginning from the latest updates).

Acta Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae – call for papers: “Recent developments in taxonomy and phylogeny of plants”

Modern plant taxonomy is an extensive field that is increasingly benefiting from the achievements of many other fields of biological sciences, such as genetics, cytology, molecular biology, ecology, phytogeography, and paleobotany. The influence of these branches of science on plant taxonomy is expressed not only through a significant multiplication of information and detailed data, but also by new phylogenetic concepts. Reconstructing phylogenetic compounds that unite all lines is a great challenge. The process of describing a new species is considered equivalent to generating a new hypothesis in phylogenesis. Hence taxonomy and phylogenetics are inseparably connected with each other. Advances in taxonomy and phylogenetic taxonomy have inspired us to designate a special issue of Acta Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae for them. Therefore, we cordially invite contributions (original articles, review articles, and short communications) focused on alpha taxonomy, evolutionary and numerical taxonomy, and phylogenetics including the following areas:

  • vascular plants,
  • bryophytes,
  • plant component in lichen.

The issue timetable:

  • submission deadline: March May 31, 2020;
  • reviews till: May 31 July 17, 2020;
  • postreview revisions till: July 31 August 14, 2020;
  • editing ends: September 15, 2020;
  • publication: September 30, 2020.
