The sensitivity of Trichoderma viride to medicagenic acid, its natural glucosides (saponins) and derivatives

Wiesław Oleszek, Keith R. Price, Roger G. Fenwick

Abstract

Medicagenic acid, its 3-0-glucopyranoside and 3,28-di-(0-glucopyranoside), their methyl esters and acetyl derivatives were tested for their potential to retard the growth of the fungus T. viride. The varying antifungal activities are discussed in relation to published data and to the applicability of T. virile - based biological methods for the quantification of saponins in plant material.
