Abstract

The stripe smut of grasses (Ustalago striiformis) rarely occurs on Arrhenatherum elatius. It has been collected on this species of grass for the first time in Poland on July 1, 1959, by the author. It has been found that it occurs on tall oat grass from May until late fall. It attacks all aboveground parts of tall oat grass. Strongly smutted plants die off, while the slightly smutted ones may recover.
