Since then, our society represents the collaborative efforts of many scientists in all aspects of botanical disciplines, including mycology, lichenology, and phycology. The PBS\u2019s activity was broken twice; during WWII (between 1939\u20131945) and in the period under martial law (from December 13, 1981 to March 1983). The PBS managed to meet annually in the period between 1923\u20131939.<\/p>\n<p>The first convention of PBS after the WWII took place in Warsaw on September 29\u201330, 1946. During the following years, the associated botanists of PBS would meet every 1\u20132 years, whereas since 1977 the conventions have been taking place every 3 years. The 50th jubilee convention of PBS in 1995 in Cracow&nbsp;was the one with the highest number of 801 attendants.<\/p>\n<p>The record of the Society\u2019s achievements includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the PBS Library collection, containing 47,139 pieces of monographic and serial publications, copies and brochures<\/li>\n<li>PBS publications, including about 350 (as from 2013) volumes of various journals and monographic printed works<\/li>\n<li>the organization of scientific events, featuring:\n<ul>\n<li>56 national conventions of the PBS<\/li>\n<li>about 900 (as from 2013) conferences, symposiums and scientific workshops arranged by the Society\u2019s Divisions&nbsp;and Sections<\/li>\n<li>over 7600 scientific meetings organized by the Society\u2019s Divisions&nbsp;and Sections (27% of which were organized by the Cracow&nbsp;Division)<\/li>\n<li>activities promoting interest in botany which comprise, among others, presentations, workshops and expeditions, training courses, lectures and methodology counseling, flora expositions and workshops concerning popularizing environmental knowledge by means of the Internet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The subsequent presidents of the Polish Botanical Society were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Boles\u0142aw Hryniewiecki \u2013 1922\u20131925<\/li>\n<li>Zygmunt W\u00f3ycicki \u2013 1926\u20131936<\/li>\n<li>Seweryn Krzemieniewski \u2013 1936\u20131939<\/li>\n<li>Boles\u0142aw Hryniewiecki \u2013 1945\u20131953<\/li>\n<li>Kazimierz Bassalik \u2013 1953\u20131955<\/li>\n<li>Henryk Tele\u017cy\u0144ski \u2013 1955\u20131973<\/li>\n<li>Tadeusz Gorczy\u0144ski&nbsp;\u2013 1973\u20131977<\/li>\n<li>Tomasz Wodzicki&nbsp;\u2013 1977\u20131983<\/li>\n<li>Benon Polakowski&nbsp;\u2013 1983\u20131989<\/li>\n<li>Jerzy Fabiszewski&nbsp;\u2013 1989\u20131992<\/li>\n<li>Stefan Zaj\u0105czkowski \u2013 1992\u20131998<\/li>\n<li>Zbigniew Mirek \u2013 1998\u20132004<\/li>\n<li>Jan Rybczy\u0144ski&nbsp;\u2013 2004\u20132010<\/li>\n<li>El\u017cbieta Romanowska \u2013 2010\u20132013<\/li>\n<li>Adam Rosta\u0144ski&nbsp;\u2013 since 2013 r.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first organizational convention on which the Polish Botanical Society was brought to life took place in Warsaw on April 9\u201310, 1922.
